VoIP FAX

VoIP FAX

Fax on VoIP conditions
Fax is designed to work with analog networks and it rather poorly interacts with VoIP networks. This is related to the data transmitted by fax is not the same as voice data.

When the analog voice signal is digitalized and compressed with help of VoIP technologies, it’s being optimized for phone, but not fax. Therefore, if you connect fax via ATA adapter to VoIP network, it will work, but some problems may appear while transmitting fax messages. When choosing before mentioned way one has to use codec G711, which uses following compression.

The opportunities of Fax: It is much easier to connect fax directly to analog phone and omit using VoIP network. Instead of Fax one can use provider, which offers services of transmitting fax messages. There are many providers, providing such a service for low cost (cheaper, than setting up a phone line). Or one can use T38 protocol, with a compatible gateway and fax, fax card or software for fax.
